“There are people in the world so hungry that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Americans eat 815 billion calories of food each day – that’s roughly 200 billion more than needed – enough to feed 80 million people.¹ We love to eat in America, and we eat well. Obesity rather than starvation is the number one concern in the United States of America. Nobody should ever go hungry in the world. The world is without excuse. Allowing others to go hungry, be undernourished, and starve to death is gross negligence on everyone’s part.
The task of feeding the hungry starts in your community. Do you support your local food pantries and food banks? What would it look like if you volunteered your time at the food pantry, homeless shelter, or created a food ministry inside your church? Everyone needs something nutritious to eat. Not because they deserve it but because they need it. God said, “give them something to eat“ (Mark 6:37). Do you carry blessing bags in your car to give to the people you see standing on the corner asking for food or money? There should be nobody hungry on your watch. God is saying to you, “give them something to eat.” What’s in your frig? What’s in your pantry? Why not buy extra food when you go grocery shopping to help support your local food pantry and food bank? Mother Teresa once said, “If you cannot feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” Shalom for hungry people is food, not evangelism!
Lord, I am lifting up to you everyone that may be hungry. I boldly pray that everyone has access to healthy food and plenty to feed their entire family. Please grant me the willingness to share the resources you have gifted me with those in my community. Thank You for every morsel of food I will enjoy today. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done, now and forever, Amen.
