Becoming a kingdom servant is nowhere near your typical idea of servanthood. The kingdom definition of servanthood is when you serve God by providing justice, righteousness, and shalom to the people in need. The trusted servant in the kingdom of God is the one who is a servant to everyone. What separates wannabes from kingdom servants is not giving testimony or preaching the good news; it’s feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, visiting the prisons, assisting the addicted, and washing the feet of everyone. It’s doing things in the kingdom that do not count in the eyes of humanity but in the eyes of God.
What validates a kingdom servant’s authenticity is their willingness to forgo whatever necessary to serve everyone in need. When God calls, they don’t spend a lot of time pondering questions like:
- What kind of salary will I get?
- How cold or hot does it get there?
- What will I eat, and is it gluten-free?
- How clean is the water?
- Where will I live?
- Who will take care of me?
If we get stuck on the above, we are not truly serving God; we are still serving ourselves. The central theme in the New Testament is not what’s in it for me? No, it’s how can I be of maximum service to God and the kingdom. When a person becomes an ultimate trusted servant, they become the sacrament of communion, their life is given up like broken bread and poured out on the lives of others like the wine in the hands of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer
Lord, You stated that You came to us not to be served but to serve. You have demonstrated what it means to be an ultimate trusted servant. Grant me the willingness and humility it will take for me to die to self to be of maximum service to You and the kingdom. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done always. Amen.
