Where is that special place you go to get quiet? That place where you decompress and spend time alone with God; your quiet place? If you’re like most people in America, you live a busy life. It may seem like you don’t always achieve a lot on a given day, but your calendar is always full of things to do. People of faith claim that God is number one, the family number two, etc., but does your daily schedule truly reflect that claim?
How much time you spend with God in private is a real measure of your faith. If you want to know how you are progressing spiritually, what are you doing when nobody else is looking? Do you regularly go to your “secret place,” your “quiet place” where you can spend time alone with God? As a believer, you must make time to be alone with God. You will not experience true rest from the daily trials of life by watching TV, reading, playing with the kids, visiting with neighbors, or sleeping. Jesus said, “come to me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31).
Be intentional and make some time to rest in God. God will be happy to spend time with you, and your soul will be grateful. It is in your quiet place with the Lord that you will discover grace, love, hope, joy, peace, and rest.
Lord, because of my selfishness, I fail to spend time with You. Please forgive me for my negligence and help me find the courage and willingness to spend time alone with You today. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done now and forever. Amen.
