“Even if we accept, as the basic tenet of true democracy, that one moron is equal to one genius, is it necessary to go a further step and hold that two morons are better than one genius?” ~ Leo Szilard
God created humankind for God’s glory and purpose. God created us to be in the world and not of it. Living a life of love and service comes with a cost, especially regarding our time, talent, and finances. When we go into the world to be of maximum service to God, we are better suited to go in pairs. In God’s Kingdom, two are always better than one.
Scripture reminds us as to why:
9 Two are better than one because they have a good return for their hard work. 10 If either should fall, one can pick up the other. But how miserable are those who fall and don’t have a companion to help them up! 11 Also, if two lie down together, they can stay warm. But how can anyone stay warm alone? 12 Also, one can be overpowered, but two together can put up resistance. A three-ply cord doesn’t easily snap. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 – CEB)
This scripture reading is a popular choice for many weddings.
The idea that two are better than one offers security, comfort, and strength. But there is also accountability that comes with tandumship (a new word I just created). The enemy (a.k.a. The devil or dark side) will do everything it can to deter us from making a difference in the world. So if we are trying to make a difference in the Kingdom of God, we can rest assured that there is a bounty on our heads.
Also, having a partner alongside us helps when burnout sets in, laziness sets in, and exhaustion sets in, which will happen to us all. A solid tandumship helps us evaluate the overall effectiveness of our strenuous efforts. Living a life of love and service for the Kingdom of God is not an easy road to travel; that’s why we must embrace the fact that two are always better than one while on this journey called life.
Who is your Kingdom partner?
If you don’t have a partner, who are your potential prospects?
Imagine the fun and difference you could make as a dynamic duo!
God of love and service, thank You for the opportunity to serve You and Your Kingdom. Please help me embrace Your spiritual practice that two are better than one. Please remove any thought or desire to go it alone, and never let me forget that You didn’t create any of us to become Lone Ranger servants. You made us for relationships, and that means that two are better than one in a life lived for Love and Service. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will not mine always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
