Have you ever had challenges with your own flesh and blood? Does skepticism run rapidly in your family? Would you refer to your tribe as a dysfunctional family? If this is your experience, guess what, you are not alone. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ grew up in the same kind of family. Think for a minute how harrowing that experience had to be. You are the Son of God, and your own siblings, including your mother, doubt your divinity. Plus, you had the devil himself, Satan, front and center, tempting you over the entire course of your ministry. You want to talk about a challenge; your own flesh and blood question your sanity.
Unlike Jesus, many of us bring a troubled past into the kingdom. Our dark past brings with it many skeptics, including many from our own flesh and blood. We must remember that we dragged these poor people through so much trauma and drama, and we wonder why they doubt our sincerity and authenticity. There is no guarantee with those we have betrayed that we’ll ever gain back their trust. Regardless if we do or we don’t, their judgment should not hinder our kingdom walk. With the Holy Spirit guiding us, we can overcome the wreckage of our past and learn to thrive in the kingdom. Once we heal, God will help transform our dark history into one of the greatest assets we possess and use it to bless many who follow in our footsteps.

Prayer¹
Dear Lord Jesus, you say in your word that those who labor and are heavy-laden should come to you, and you give them rest. Jesus, I come to you with this burden that I’ve been carrying for a long time. There are so many unresolved issues in our family, but no one is willing to resolve them. We are all pretending that everything is fine, but in reality, we are no longer close to the way we used to be as a family. Bring healing into our hearts. Let every hurt, pain, and bad memory be washed away with your blood. Cleanse us from resentment and bitterness and help us to love one another just the way you love us. We pray this trusting and believing in your holy name, Amen.
