Spiritual Gravy
Most of us will look forward to enjoying gravy on many parts of our Thanksgiving feast over the next few days.
The term “gravy” first appears in Middle English as gravé and is presumed to derive from the French. The original medieval meaning was “precise.” Lord, the miraculous blessings you have bestowed on me is the spiritual gravy that I now enjoy since experiencing a redeemed life.
Tim McGraw released his new single “Gravy” on November 24, 2020.
The main chorus goes like this:
“Got a flatbed Ford and four good tires
Biscuits in the oven, chicken in the fryer
Lights turned on, cable paid
If you ask me, I got it made
If I could hug my kids and kiss my wife
One more day in this crazy life
Take a second to stop and smell the daisies
Everything else is gravy”
God of grace and mercy, help me to be grateful for the relationships I enjoy in my life today, especially with You. Grant me the gift of recognizing that these relationships are truly the most important blessings in my life and everything else is spiritual gravy.
