Peanut Brittle Fanatic
“A fanatic is a nut who has something to believe in.”~Dean Koontz
During the holiday’s peanut brittle is a popular gift given by many. My friend Karen Huskey blessed us this year with her famous homemade peanut brittle; God bless Karen Huskey.
We all are fanatics about certain things in our life, meaning we are nuts about things we believe in. I am a sports fanatic and love the Chiefs, Cardinals, Blues, Billikens, and Tigers. I get pretty stoked when my teams are playing and especially when they win. It’s easy for me to yell, high five, make braggadocios social post, basically go nuts. Do I get that fanatical about God? Do I show the same enthusiasm and passion for You Lord that I do for the worldly things I believe in? Lord, whatever stigma or fear that prevents me from showing my love and gratitude for You, please remove it from my life. I want to be able to celebrate my faith in an attractive and joyful way.
Peanut brittle was most likely the first hard candy ever made, and it was made by accident from someone supposedly mixing the wrong ingredients together. Because of peanuts providing protein and other nutrients, they were a survival food in the south. Discovering ways to combine this necessary food with sugar was a sweet invention that, three centuries later, we still are fanatical about. Lord, to remain happy, joyous, and free, I need You as the necessary cornerstone for survival in the kingdom. Your amazing grace is for free and for fun, and the sweetest ingredient to the kingdom life. Help me realize that even though life is hard and brittle at times, Your sweet hope, peace, joy, and love make living the spiritual life a peanut brittle kind of experience. A life that any fanatic must appreciate. My sweet Lord, I do adore You and appreciate You always.
