Our soul is made up of our mind, emotions, and will. The soul is part of the body, and the body and mind are joined until death. Once we die, the soul departs from the body, and the body turns to stardust. Scripture tells us that our body will be resurrected when Jesus returns and completes the process of all salvation on earth as it is in heaven (1 Corinthians 15:35-58). In the meantime, during this earthly life, when the flesh gets muddied, the soul too gets muddied.
“After each failure, ask forgiveness, pick yourself up, and try again. Very often, what God first helps us toward is not the virtue itself but just this power of always trying again. For however important chastity (or courage, or truthfulness, or any other virtue) may be, this process trains us in habits of the soul which are more important still. It cures our illusions about ourselves and teaches us to depend on God. We learn, on the one hand, that we cannot trust ourselves even in our best moments, and, on the other, that we need not despair even in our worst, for our failures are forgiven.” ~ C.S. Lewis
Because we are fatally flawed human beings and experience spiritual warfare from Satan and his legion of angels, our soul will experience bewilderment. When we live into acts of the flesh, we put our soul in a position to bewildered. When we experience bewilderment, we will selfishly cry out for God to take away our pain, but until we fully surrender, we will remain dazed and confused. The good news is that once we honestly seek God’s forgiveness and become willing for God to be the conductor of our life, we will experience freedom from the bondage of self, and our souls will no longer be tormented.

Help me to remain steadfast and immovable – always abounding in the work of the Lord. Thank You that my work is not in vain in the Lord, but will receive a great reward – may all I do, be done to Your greater praise and glory – This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.
