“The more you look into and understand yourself, the less judgmental you become towards others.” ~ Tariq Ramadan
People judging people goes back to the beginning of creation. Extreme self-centeredness is in the DNA of humanity. When it comes to judgment, who are we to judge anyone? No blue ribbons are hanging on any of our walls for “outstanding sinless achievement of the year.” Yet, our world remains divided over judgmental bias. The delusion that the world would be better if people would wake up to our design for living is alive and well.
God is the only one in a position to judge over creation, especially human beings. Humans are empowered to make daily judgments, e.g., what we watch, watch, read, eat, hang around, etc. Still, when it comes to judging another human based on the color of their skin, zip code, education, religion, worldview, eternal destiny, and whether others are qualified to receive the necessities of life is not part of our job description; only God is qualified to do that. The basic needs of life, food, water, shelter, and protection are gifts from God, not rights available to only certain people of power. Judging from a human position who is not entitled to receive God’s blessings is an abomination to God. We are not the judge, jury, and executioner of anyone.
People who are humble enough to take personal inventory of their lives discover countless flaws in their character. They realize when they are pointing their finger at someone else, three fingers are pointing back at them. Learning to love others vs. judging theming requires a spiritual experience. This cosmic shift requires divine intervention to become less and less interested in ourselves and more interested in loving and serving others.
Every person will meet God either in this life or the afterlife. What happens at that point is a mystery. What scripture clarifies is that we will be in the presence of the Creator of the universe and face certain judgment. In that position of powerlessness, we will discover the truth that God didn’t create humans to be the judge, jury, or executioners of anyone. We have no business judging anyone. We are all better off if we allow God alone to judge over others and instead turn our focus to love God, love others as ourselves, and help change the world.
My Creator, You alone are the judge of the world and all of humanity. Would You please remove the junk in my soul that causes me to want to be the judge, jury, and executioner of others? Help me love others instead of judging them. I know I can’t change, fix, or save anyone, but I can love them with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in my soul. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will not mine always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
