“Love and Death are two uninvited guests when they will come, nobody knows, but both do the same work; one takes heart, and the other takes its beats.” ~ Nishan Panwar
Have you ever not been invited to a special event when you wanted to attend? We have all experienced that empty feeling of having been left out of the mix. Or, have you ever been invited to a special event unexpectedly, where you felt out of place and unsure why you were even there? We have all experienced that invitation, to mingle with people we don’t know or rarely mix. Our spiritual temperament will determine how well we experience these sensitive moments in life.
Many people and demographics throughout the world are overlooked and have made the list of uninvited guests. People intentionally don’t ask them to be apart of anything because of their status in life, skin color, religious views, history, gender, sexuality, political bent, economics, etc. Society pushes these people to the margins and, in many cases, dehumanizes them all together. If you currently are or have ever been one of these people, it’s a lonely and painful place to exist.
In the spiritual realm, we are encouraged to do life with people living on the margins. We must first face our fears, isms, and phobias of others if we aim to be of maximum service to God and God’s kids. God created every person in God’s image. When we view all people this way, it changes our guest list. We must learn to invite the uninvited to the banquet of life, especially those people who can offer us nothing in return.
When was the last time you ate a meal with a stranger? Or intentionally visited a community, country, or culture where the vast majority of people don’t look like you? Have you ever invited people on the margins to your home or church for dinner, especially around the holidays? If you want to please God and experience the promises only available in the spiritual realm, you must learn to invite the uninvited to the banquet of life.
My Creator, open my eyes to the opportunities You provide me to bless others expecting nothing in return. Forgive me when I invest all my time, effort, and interest only in those I already know and who can repay me. Use me to bless those from whom I can expect nothing in return. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done, now and forever, Amen.
