“Those who run from God in the morning will scarcely find God the rest of the day.” ~ John Bunyan
How do you start your day? Bathroom stop, coffee, exercise, turn on the tv, play with your pet(s), rush off to work, deal with kids, spend time in prayer and meditation, etc.? How does God fit into your daily routine, or is God absent from your daily schedule most days? When are you at your best? For most people, that is in the morning when they first wake up from a good night’s sleep. God asks for your best always, and if you’re at your best in the morning hours, shouldn’t that be when you’re intentional about spending time with God? If you save your best self for your little plans, designs, and work, you rob God of the very best of you. I know a pastor who lives in Virginia Beach, Pastor Keith Langland, who taught me the discipline of “no Bible no breakfast.” I am glad his instructions didn’t say, “no Bible, no coffee, “ha.” How well you incorporate God into your morning routine will determine how well you invite God into the rest of your day. If you keep God locked in the closet in the morning, you will most likely find God in the same place when you get back home. When you wake up in the morning, the first voice you should engage should be God’s. There is no better way to start your day than to start a conversation with the Creator of the universe, who deeply loves you and eagerly wants to be the center of your day.
