Jesus pulls no punches when it comes to forgiveness in the kingdom. Since we are forgiven people, we must be forgiving people, with even our enemies, no exceptions. When Jesus told Peter seventy times seven, he was saying there is no end to the act of forgiveness. Some of us have been seriously trespassed against, possibly even as children. But we have all trespassed against others and most definitely God.
We need forgiveness, and Jesus, by giving up his life and being resurrected, provides such forgiveness. Jesus didn’t give up his life because we deserved it; he gave up his life because we needed it. The same holds for us in the kingdom. We don’t forgive others because they deserve it; we offer them forgiveness because they need it, and our heart needs to be restored and refreshed. This freedom is only possible when we let go of the past and offer the gift of forgiveness to everyone—the kind of forgiveness that comes straight from the heart.

Prayer
Lord, You require forgiveness at the deepest level in the kingdom. I know that I am a forgiven person, and therefore you call on me to be a forgiving person. Please grant me the courage to face the deeds I desperately need forgiveness, and in return, offer up forgiveness for those who have harmed me in any way. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. Amen.
