“If you aren’t in the moment, you are either looking forward to uncertainty or back to pain and regret.”
~ Jim Carrey
We miss out on many blessings in life because we habitually rummage through our past, fixating on our regrets. Making a gratitude list is an effective strategy to help overcome the dark memories that still linger subconsciously and continue to haunt us. We will find that letting go of the old life helps us embrace the new life.
It’s incredible how we increase the odds of enjoying a God-centered day when we let go of our past and learn to live in the moment. It’s way more effective to patronize God’s gift shop and discover countless blessings than dumpster diving into the past and sifting through our poo.
May we all grow to allow God’s perfect love to shape us into the person He created us always to become. Harboring old resentments, regrets, and living on could have, would have, should have isle will only lead to squandering many opportunities and deeply sicken our soul. When we don’t think clearly, we cannot recognize the many new blessings God has in store for us or enjoy life to the fullest. Learning to live in the moment helps us experience God’s gift of today, which is why it’s called “the present.”
God of love, thank You for giving me the gift of today, but how often do I squander Your daily blessings by reflecting on and regretting my past. I desire to live in the moment by learning to live one day at a time; please help me live in the now so that I can experience your joy and countless blessings. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will not mine always materialize, now and forever. Amen.
