“If you want to eliminate hunger, everybody has to be involved.” ~ Bono
And I noticed a giant T-Bone hanging from the ceiling.
I asked the butcher – “Hey, what’s this for?”
“Oh,” replied the butcher, “That’s a competition we have going. Choose what meat you want to buy and put it on the counter. You can then choose to jump and pull the t-bone down. If you do it in one shot, you get your meat-free; otherwise, you pay 50% more. Want to have a shot?”
“Nah,” I replied, ” the Steaks are too high!”
Friends, the stakes are too high when it comes to world hunger. I have been hungry many times in my life but never starving. There have been many times throughout my life where I have said, or I have heard others say, “I am starving.” We should delete that expression from our vocabulary, at least most of us, especially in America. The majority of us have no idea what it feels like to starve.
God says, “when you feed the hungry, you feed me.” Would you ever pass up the opportunity to provide a meal to God, especially if you were sure it was God you were helping? Let’s check out this truth lesson given to us by Jesus Himself:
Matthew 25:35-40 (CEB)
37 “Then those who are righteous will reply to him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? 38 When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and give you clothes to wear? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.’
Hopefully, the love in our hearts grows to feed the hungry not because we might be serving God, but because God lives in our heart, and feeding the hungry is what God does. God doesn’t feed the hungry because they deserve it; God feeds them because they need it. God’s justice is that everyone has something to eat, drink, wear, and care for them. In the Spirit world, God’s ways become our ways. God’s way is to take care of the hungry. What will you do to help feed the hungry? The opportunities are limitless; we are without excuse.
Lord, thank You that I have never experienced starvation. My heart breaks at the thought of anyone going hungry and starving to death. You call on me to join the call to feed my people. Please give me the willingness to make feeding Your people a priority for my life. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done always and forever. Amen.
