“Anything you love more, fear more, serve more, or value more than God is your idol.” ~ Adrian Rogers
The number one sin in the Bible is idolatry. There is not even a close second. We all have them, and we have more than one. If you live in America, then your idolatry is on steroids. In American especially, there is a sin scale in play, both in the world and the church. We measure sins how we see fit. For example, six passages in the Bible speak to homosexuality; six, that’s it. There are three in the Old Testament and Three in the New Testament. Yet, Christians are quick to point out that homosexuality is an abomination to the world. Friends, there are thousands of scripture references that speak to the sin of idolatry. Idolatry should be at the top of any list ranking the sins of humankind. In the kingdom, our idols will continue to be pointed out and challenged by God. God will not rest until the kingdom of God is number one in our lives.

Prayer
Lord, countless idols have taken Your place in my heart. Let me confess out loud, by listing these idols ______________________________. Please grant me forgiveness for false idols. For putting my security in people, places, and things rather than You, Lord. Forgive me for judging other’s sins higher than my own. Today I am recommitting myself to You and saying goodbye to my American idols. In Your Spirit and Name, I pray these things. May Your will and not mine be done, now and forever, Amen.
